Auschwitz camp's stolen sign recovered in three pieces
When I had read this article, so many ideas and thoughts were running through my head. But the main thought I had was, why would someone steal such an important item in history? The men did not only steal the sign, but they broke it up into three pieces to share it amongst themselves. I was very happy to read that these men were caught and taken in for questioning, but I was even more relieved when I read that the stolen sign was recovered. Even though it is still in three pieces, just the fact that it is now in safe hands is reassuring.

It is a relief that the sign was recovered and that those men were caught by the police and brought in for questioning. What did you think about the reasons the men stole the sign? Did you think the possible punishment for these men was fair?
ReplyDeleteI think that the reason for the men stealing the sign was to remember the Holocaust by taking a piece of great importance from one of the most memorable death camps, Auschwitz. This to me was still not right and reasonable. As for the punishment for these men, it wasn't too clear in the article about what their punishment was. However, I looked it up online and it said that 3 out of the 5 thieves were to be sentenced up to 36 months in prison. I got this information from http://sofiaecho.com/2010/03/10/870750_sentence-without-trial-for-auschwitz-sign-thieves?ref=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rss2%2Fall-news+%28The+Sofia+Echo%29. In my opionion, ALL of these men should get more years in prison for committing such a crime.
